The Question Block Video Game Pub Quiz 2016-17 Season Info & Trivia Scores (page 10)

May, I Guess

Season 5 Wraps

The Juans of Gamelon continued their kamikaze run this month, heading straight for the season championships held at SRGE 2017!  This month’s trivia featured 9 pinball-loving teams ready to tilt the last game of the season while the league teams compete for a REPLAY of their best rounds at this month’s Question Block trivia!

From the first e3 in 1995

The 9 teams created a cash prize pool of $45, and our half-time prize pool consisted of a bevvy of kitschy video game swag, including a complete copy of John Madden Football for the Sega Genesis, a brand new copy of the Bravely Second OST, a Fire Emblem 3DS sleeve, and brand new copy of Rare Replay for the Xbox One! Not to mention free drinks from the bar!

Round 1 challenged teams to answer questions from This Month in Video Games! Veteran team The Spoony Bards tore out of the gate to be the only team to score a perfect round including the bonus point!

Round 2 was our graphic round, Are We Having Font Yet?  Teams tried to identify the game from a version of the game’s title written in Arabic.  Many teams did well this round, but only The Spoony Bards and The Well Actually’s getting full points.

Our non-video game round was May / Memorial Day.  Nothing like a good old fashioned trivia round to damage the average score for the evening!  Most teams scored 4 out of 8 possible answers.  No one managed to get a perfect score, but Game….Blouses managed to score 7 out of 8 points, the only team to do so.

Our half-time lightning round using the new format earned many people some great half-time swag and free drinks.  Curious about the new format?  You’ll have to come out to the next game to find out!

Round 4, That Would Look Good on a T-Shirt, asked teams to first explain the meaning of an acronym from the world of gaming, then to identify a game from an object in the game that is normally referred to by its acronym.  It sounds confusing, but just ask Game…Blouses and The Woodmen, who both earned the bonus point on top of the regular 8 points for a perfect round.

Round 5 was our video round for the month was Comics in Games. Teams were asked to identify the comic on which a game was based after watching a short clip.  Super Ultra Trivia Team 2.5 HD Remix Tournament Edition, No, No, No, to Tallyho!, and the Ball Bearing Sorcerers all racked up perfect scores this round!

Our final round was also our Player’s Choice round for May, and it featured Rhythm Games.  Unlike previous rhythm game rounds, this time we asked teams questions about the genre and its pioneers.  The round proved tough, but two teams, The Pinball Quizzards and Game…Blouses, managed 11 points, the highest scores this round.  Tonight’s trivia was tougher than most nights, with all teams averaging just under 40 points out of the 57 possible. The Spoony Bards were the only team to consistently perform across all rounds, and their perseverance has led them to victory in the final standard season game!  Congratulations to all the teams who played this month’s game, and thanks for coming out and playing!

For the first time ever, we had a tie for team who chooses the Player’s Choice round, between No, No, No to Tallyho! and The Ball Bearing Sorcerers.  Here luck and a little intuition helped No, No, No to Tallyho! win the honor of choosing a round in April’s game.

The Player’s Choice round for July is A MYSTERY (for now)!
