How Trivia Will Work at SRGE 2013

question-block-timer-nodelayThe Question Block is a Pub Quiz Format with 6-player teams!  How will that work at SRGE???

Good question, anonymous Internet user!  During our regular monthly events, we have a standard quiz format with teams and cash prizes.  For the Seattle Retro Gaming Expo, our event will be geared towards attendees having fun, while keeping some of the competitive aspects of the regular Question Block trivia nights.

We’ll be using a multiple choice format with teams of up to 3 participating.  We’ll have special answer sheets available at the show, and provide pens in order to answer.  Instead of having teams switch answer sheets for grading, we’ll collect answer sheets and move on to the next round while staff members grade everyone’s answer sheets.

Why Multiple Choice?

The multiple choice format will let everyone participate even if they’ve never played a particular game before.

Why 3-person teams instead of 6-person teams?

The smaller team format allows a few friends or two parents and their son or daughter to play together, without having to worry about making space for large teams to collaborate.

I’m new to this whole “Trivia” thing.  What kind of questions can I expect?  Will it be fun?

Yes!  Our trivia is designed to be fun, or at least interesting to folks who like videogames.  Even if you aren’t a hardcore nerd, you will still enjoy guessing some of the questions, and hearing some of the fun facts we include in our trivia game.  We will provide the answers at the end of every round so you can settle any side bets you might have with teammates!

Is it just questions on a piece of paper?  That sounds BORING!  You’re Boring, Boring Guy!

No!  The Question Block Trivia does have “normal” trivia question rounds, but we always have a graphic round where we show you an image and ask you questions about it.  We also have an audio round, where we play music or a sound effect and ask you more questions.  Finally, we have a video round, where we’ll show you a video clip (we ask you questions about that too).  We try hard to make sure our trivia is never boring, and we always ask for your feedback, so if you think it’s boring, TELL US WHY and we’ll totally make it better for you!

Will there be prizes?

Maaaaaaaaybe.

I like yelling out funny answers!

You are a bad bad person and nobody likes you.  Please don’t do it, there are others who are furiously trying to remember the names of the playable characters in Super Mario Bros. 2, and they don’t appreciate it when you yell out “CHODE.”  Trust me, they told me they don’t like it;  they thought you were cute until you did that, and now they like the other guy, the guy that you hate.

I have more questions, but they are specific and weird, and I don’t want you to post them here.

No problem!  Please email nathan@seattleretro.org and I will answer your (Videogame Trivia related) questions!
